Etsy Seller Review: DawnToDuskGifts

This was a bad one, guys. By far the worst Etsy experience I have had so I think I will use my big-girl words instead of paw-print cuteness.

I ordered a purse from DawntoDuskGifts on August 13th. The email I received upon purchase said it would arrive within 2-3 weeks, which seems excessive since we are on the same continent and the purse is *ahem* already made.

Three days ago, about a month after the purchase, I messaged Dawn to ask where my purse was, and was told:
"Hi, your parcel was sent out near Aug. 15 by Canada Post standard surface mail.
Please allow 2-6 weeks for delivery."
So, it has increased. The purse arrived today with acceptable packaging, a month and a day after I ordered it. It was, in fact, postmarked September Third. I for one don't consider that near August 15th in this context.

The main problem is that the purse was claimed to be "One of a Kind, Handcrafted in Canada" on the item listing when it is in no way handcrafted in Canada and in fact sports a "Made in China" tag on the inside!

I am sort of a noob at Etsy (btw, made my second sale today!!) but I do believe that selling non handmade items that are neither vintage nor supplies is against Etsy's policies. Claiming things that aren't true doesn't really help.

I left neutral feedback and am currently terrified about the possibility of retaliatory feedback even though I didn't do anything wrong! The purse is cute, and it came with the soap as advertised, but I am really disappointed with the duplicity here. I do not recommend this seller.

What would you have done? Did I do the right thing? Ahhhhhh!!

  2. First of all, the item purchased was bought from a craft supply store & then decorated on the outside. Making it a re-vamped Handmade item by an artisan.

    For example: screenprinting artisans have to buy their t-shirts from another company, then put their design on it, making it a Handmade item by them.
    Or when you buy a wood box from a craft store with a label (made in China) then decorating the box with your own artwork, this makes the item Handmade also.

    This buyer seems Very High-strung & stupid by posting me negative comments like this. She also Never Contacted me if there was a problem with her purchase! Before blasting me with negative comments over a $7.99 item!

    As for the shipping, she bought the item from Canada & wanted standard surface mail which takes 2-6 weeks for delivery to the USA, not including Customs clearance time.
    We ship every week & there are no delays unless it is a custom order which requires extra time.

    This buyer obviously has nothing better to do with her time but get herself all upset without COMMUNICATING with the seller first to reslove any issues.

  3. The buyer needs to read the listing before making a purchase. And learn how to COMMUNICATE with the seller if they have a problem with their purchase before posting negative attacks trying to damage a seller reputation over a $7.99 item.

  4. OK so you are calling me "Very High-strung & stupid" for informing my blog viewers about your shop? And complaining about me "trying to damage a seller reputation" by posting such things on my blog? Interesting.

    If it was revamped as you say, I don't see it and you should probably be more clear in your description. Same with the shipping.

    About communicating first, I rated you on Etsy, which to my understanding is the proper way to deal with problem items.

  5. You are misunderstood on how to deal with product issues on etsy. You are supposed to contact the seller first, then if the issue is not resolved to your satisfaction, you can blast away all your negative comments on them like you do.

    I assure you & everyone reading this, that the item was decorated by myself. The lace & gemstones were added to the purse by ME not the manufacturer. Commercial made items are not allowed on etsy & I would not be stupid enough to risk loosing my store.

    All my listings are clear about the shipping times & methods as well as under my "About Me" page & again you received this information at checkout. If you felt the shipping time was too long, then you should have not chosen Standard surface mail, but Air mail instead.

    YOU are in fact trying to damage my seller reputation by posting your comments here to begin with. I am only replying to defend my side of the story.
    And I will be contacting Etsy about your damaging comments you are posting about my business all over the internet.

  7. I am telling the truth. Pretty sure I am allowed to do that.

    Even assuming you sewed on the lace and stones I feel that I was justified giving you a neutral rating based on the shipping issues alone.

    It arrived THREE MONTHS after I ordered it. Your shipping policies said 2-3 weeks for delivery. When I asked you about it in Etsy conversation you told me it was sent on August 15. It turned out to be postmarked September 3. Even with no other issues I feel that your lying to me about the send date justifies the neutral rating. I could have rated negative but opted not to out of misplaced kindness.
